Here's one thing I found not plausible. Bernie is not perfect but he is -- or tries to be -- a man of his word. I think it's very unlikely that he wouldn't have paid back Noreen long before the war. Even if he didn't want to write to her directly, I'm sure that by the time he'd been in business for several years, he could have gotten a check to her through Hedda. I think he would have. No way would have taken her money and not paid her back like he said he would.
