What I found most pleasing about this novel is that there is a hint Bernie may catch a break. He may aid the new state of Israel? A Nazi Hunter?

I have never felt BGs interaction with the upper echelons of Nazi Germany to be improbable. They needed his assistance, someone competent and reliable. Get that rep and you will be summoned forth.

I would go with "The Lady from Zagreb" lady, Dalia. A movie star, and upstaging Goebells is hard to beat.

Sad to say, Chandler had many personal problems, and alcoholism. This would have hampered his productivity.

prequel idea: A murder in the trenches of ww1. Wait, not as silly as it may sound. Spies, counter agents, corruption, informers, lies and deceit. Mix it all together. It would explain his later distrust of authority and cynicism.

I would not hold one's breath. There are always lots of good ideas and scripts floating around, but most don't even get a chance. Also, I am inclined to say, an anti-establishment, noir detective is not in the public mood at the moment.

I don't see it happening in this novel, but it would be fun to see Bernie meet again his daughter, and assume a parental role. How would he handle it? Have to put aside some of his cynicism (hard earned), and evoke his hidden empathy.
